The XX - Digipak

Front Cover
1st Page
2nd Page
Back

The front cover has a white background, not your typical indie album cover however could signify the band is very alternative which means they go against the codes being very different. The cover features a big X filling majority of the cover. There is no text whatsoever on the cover. The band are called The XX and so they have this trademark where fans will see the big X and instantly recognise that as the band.  The X itself is coloured in with what looks like liquid of some sort. There are a lot of colours almost giving it a ‘Trippy’ feel to it suggesting the band use drugs but also their music is very hallucigenic.

This page is very much the same as the front cover with the white background connoting to pureness and spiritualness. Only the X this time is black and blue creating an alternative darker perspective to their music. Still no text just the symbolic X.

The disc is an exact replica of the front cover. This really signifies the band to be a mystery if you have never seen or heard of this band and you pick up this cd for the first time you are left thinking who is this band/ artist. This really reinforces the codes and conventions of this genre where it’s all about the music and not about the image. It also reinforces the low budget feel to it and looks like an art student of 18 produces the artwork for the album, meaning the band really know how to appeal to their target audience.

The back of the Cd is where we first encounter any bit of text. And it’s the tract list, still no mention of the band’s name. The font of the text is very bold and in capitals giving the band a bold statement of this is who we are. The first song on the list is called ‘Angles’ this links to the colour scheme of white which has connotations of being spiritual. Also on the back features a link to what appears to be the bands website appealing to their fan base and also a logo of the bands record company.
